Shoulder Impingement Exercises
There are a lot of people
around the world that is suffering from shoulder
impingement. It affects them in many ways. Doing the
dishes or washing the clothes can be painful and
sometimes it can ache for days. To prevent this from
happening, the best way to ensure a quick recovery is
by performing shoulder impingement exercises. To
ensure that you are doing the exercises correctly,
talk to a physical therapist as they will teach the
right exercise techniques. Sometimes, if you don't do
the exercises correctly, it could cause more problems
and prolong your injury.
The first sets of exercises you need to
perform are stretching exercises. Stretching will make your
muscle looser and prevent your humeral head (the shoulder
ball) compressing the glenoid (socket) joint too much. As a
result, there is more space for your shoulder joint to move
around and prevent any impingement of the nerve, tendon and
muscles. In addition, when you stretch, don't stretch into
too much pain because you may cause a tear around the
shoulder muscle. Instead, perform slow and gentle
stretches.
The second sets of exercises you need to
do are strengthening exercises. Depending on the severity
of the pain and weakness of the muscle, you can hold a
weight into your hands. If not, there are plenty of other
ways to strengthen your arms like purchasing a pulley
system or use theraband. A theraband is a rubber device
where you can use it to stretch and strengthen your
shoulder muscles.
The third sets of exercises are
proprioception exercises or balance exercises. These are
normally done when your muscles are not very painful. You
need to retrain your muscles so it can perform normal
movements easily. When you injury a muscle, you lose some
of your nerve endings. This nerve gives your brain
information on where the arm, shoulder is moving.
Performing proprioceptive exercises will retrain these
nerves to perform normal movements.
Overall, it is best to keep persevere
with these shoulder impingement exercises. If you don't do
it, then your recovery times will decrease and could delay
rehabilitation and increase tissue damage. The shoulder
joint is one of the most complex joint of the body. It
needs careful attention so that it won't get
damaged.
